Three Scotts Valley High School seniors signed letters of intent to play college athletics at the Division I level during a ceremony at the school on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Wednesday was National Signing Day — the first day high school student-athletes can officially pledge to play NCAA D-I sports.
Seniors Emily Johnson, Vanessa Fraser and Kacey Lilly each signed a letter of intent in front of hundreds of students in the Scotts Valley High School quad during lunch hour.
Fraser is the most decorated of the signees.
A two-time Division IV cross-country California state champion, Fraser signed her letter of intent to run cross-country and track at Stanford University. Fraser has said it was her dream to attend Stanford since third grade.
Johnson, a goalkeeper for the Falcons, signed up to play soccer for the University of Santa Clara. She was the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Goalkeeper of the Year as a junior in 2012 and is one of the key players on the Falcons’ soccer team currently in the hunt for a league title.
Lilly, a defender on the girls soccer team, signed her letter of intent to play for Purdue University in Hammond, Ind. Lilly said she’s still negotiating an athletic scholarship with the school.
