Scotts Valley High sophomore Dominique Parrish took second in the California Interscholastic Federation Championship in Lemoore this past weekend — the highest finish for a female wrestler in the school’s history.
Parrish, wrestling at 114 pounds, finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, falling only to Cady Chessin of Los Gatos in the final.
Also competing in the tournament were several other wrestlers from Scotts Valley’s Central Coast Section-winning girls wrestling team, including Abigail Lopez-Gay (1-2 record at 126 pounds), Alicia Pitts (2-2, 108 pounds) and Shelby Baker (1-2, 122 pounds).
 
Boys grapple at sectionals
San Lorenzo Valley High senior Michael Kraft finished his high school wrestling career with a sixth-place finish at the Central Coast Section championship wrestling tournament.
The tournament was Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23, at Independence High School in San Jose.
Kraft, who was seeded fourth entering the tournament at 145 pounds, won his first three bouts and finished 3-2 overall.
No local wrestler finished in the top three to qualify for the state meet.
The SLV Cougars finished 39th of 54 teams in the tournament.
In addition to Kraft, the team included Jed Kraft (3-2, 113 pounds), Vidal Jones (1-2, 120 pounds), Jason Silva (1-2, 106 pounds), Patrick Brooks (0-2, 160 pounds) and Chase Kammeier (0-2, 160 pounds).
The Scotts Valley Falcons took 37th overall.
Jake Revino went 3-2 at 113 pounds, and Baldan Dashiev (182) and Grant Margerum had 2-2 records. Kevin Edington (126), Andy Ramirez (160) and Mike Sandoval (120) all went 1-2. Doug Peyser (152), Eric Graves (170) and Christian Robattaro (220) finished 0-2.
