Donations are being accepted to help the family of an injured Scotts Valley man who went missing and was found in Utah several days later.
Matthew Abraham, 20, of Scotts Valley, suffered a severe head injury March 8 when he fell from a train trestle riding his mountain bike in Henry Cowell State Park. Abraham went missing on Wednesday, March 13 and a full-scale search by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office began on Thursday, March 14 including notifying law enforcement statewide. The search continued until the next day when a bus driver recognized Abraham and told authorities that he was on a bus headed to Sparks, Nev. Then, after the Sheriff’s Office notified law enforcement in Nevada and Utah, someone he was traveling with came to authorities, which eventually led to Abraham being discovered in a public library in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, March 15 at about 5 p.m.
Abraham had met the person while traveling and had asked for help getting to the east coast, according to investigators.
Authorities believe that Abraham’s erratic behavior was caused by the bicycle accident. Abraham’s family flew to Utah on Saturday, March 16 to pick him up.
He is resting at home, according to his mother Karen Abraham.
“He’s incredibly sore, healthy and working on brain recovery,” she said through a friend who helped set up donations for the family.

However, Valley Churches United is accepting tax deductible donations in Matthew Abraham’s name to help defray medical costs.
