Two men die on mountain roadways

Two motorists — both of whom were not wearing seat belts, according to the California Highway Patrol — were killed during a three-day span on rural roads in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
According to a CHP press release, on Monday, April 8, a 61-year-old Berkeley man was killed after he was thrown from his 2000 Ford Expedition when it careered off westbound Jamison Creek Road in Boulder Creek and went down a steep embankment.
It was not known when the incident occurred, or if drugs or alcohol were a factor, the release stated.
Two days later, at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, a 38-year-old Boulder Creek man was pronounced dead after his 1997 Volvo S60 crashed into a downhill embankment while traveling north on Highway 35, north of Summit Road.
According to the CHP, the man’s vehicle crossed the southbound lane before going off the road.
The man was thrown from the vehicle and died.
It was not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
A nonfatal crash Thursday, April 4, involved an Aptos man whose 1992 Honda Civic collided with a Ford pickup on Bonny Doon Road in Bonny Doon.
According to the CHP, Jaymie Redman, 21, of Aptos, lost control of his car on wet pavement as he was heading west and crossed into the opposing lane, where he collided with the truck owned by the California State Parks system.
Redman was taken to Dominican Hospital with major injuries. The truck’s driver, William Rea, 56, of Boulder Creek, was uninjured.
