Non-profit CEO to pursue law
Community Bridges CEO Sam Storey will retire from his post and pursue a private law practice. Storey has served as CEO for 14 years in which time the organizations budget has grown by more than $5 million annually. Storey began his career in law and joined what was then called Food and Nutrition Services in 1984. He was appointed director in 1999.
Fire agency hires extra staff
Cal Fire has hired extra staff to battle early wildfires statewide. According to the agency, conditions are drier than normal for this time of year. Since Jan. 1, Cal Fire has battled nearly 1,900 wildfires in California, compared to an average of 990 by this time each year. The agency urges extreme caution while working outdoors and recommends not mowing or weed-eating dry grass on windy days and to be extra careful with all powered equipment including chainsaws, tractors and welders.
Cabrillo board recommends next president
The Cabrillo College governing board announced Wednesday, June 5 that it unanimously recommends Dr. Laurel Jones as the lead candidate for president and superintendent of the college. The board will vote on Jones’ contract at its June 10 meeting.
Jones is the current president of Mission College in Santa Clara and previously served as vice president of academic services at Las Positas College in Livermore and as vice president of academic affairs at Solano Community College. She was also the dean of instruction at Mount San Jacinto College and an instructor at Mount San Antonio College. She would replace Brian King who left for Los Rios Community College District to become chancellor on Feb. 1.
