Teams in Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley little league competed in the District 39 Tournament of Champions for the past two weeks.
 
San Lorenzo Valley Little League
 
Minors Division
Minors SLV D’backs 3, Watsonville American A’s 1
 
Casey Crouch threw four innings and had 12 strikeouts, but the A’s scored first on a triple and a passed ball. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, left-handed batter Andrew Gudnason belted a single to right bringing in the tying and go-ahead runs.  Gudnason later scored to make the lead 3-1. Brodie Brownlee pitched the fifth and sixth, and recorded six strikeouts. Crouch and Brownlee’s strikeouts accounted for every out in the game.
 
Majors Division
 
Scotts Valley Giants 7, SLV Rangers 6
For Scotts Valley Connor Wilson had an RBI triple and Lauren Shay singled, Tyler Rehnberg had a solo homer and Henry Merring went 3-for-4 and drove in Ambrose Johnson in the win. Zac Yates pitched three innings and struck out seven and Trevor Stocker tossed two innings and struck out five.
For SLV Julian Auldridge had two 2-run homers, Jacob Auldridge singled and Isaac Menge doubled, but Scotts Valley scored two in the sixth to take the win.
 
7-and-8 year-old All Stars
SLV 13, Watsonville 12
For SLV, Shelby Monowitz and Erika Kindred singled and Nathan Davison doubled them in. The game went back and forth with both teams scoring in a 3 ½ hour classic. Cash Ebright from SLV got a walk for a walk-off win.
 
Scotts Valley Little League
AAA Division
 
Yankees 20, O’s 4
The Yankees earned the right to represent Scotts Valley in the tournament of champions with the victory. Jostin Barber, Jaden Meulman, Abdoulaye Sow, Carson McElrone, Sammy McNeely and Ryan Linn all had multi-hit games and Colin Sprague added a hit for the Yankees.
 
Yankees 11, Pajaro Valley 5
Ryan Beam started the second inning and pitched three strong innings that held Pajaro Valley scoreless and allowed the Yankees to score 5 runs in the 4th inning to take the lead. Jaden Meulman, Mikey Arcangeli and Carson McElrone had multi-hit games while Ryan Beam, Abdoulaye Sow, Tim Miller and Sammy McNeely added hits for the Yankees.
 
Majors Division
 
Giants 7, Capitola/Soquel Pirates 2
In District 39 Tournament of Champions action, the Giant’s Zac Yates tossed six innings and struck out 13 while giving up three hits and a walk. He went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Trevor Stocker had a 3-run homer in the 3rd and Henry Merring blasted a homer. Connor Wilson doubled and Lauren Shay was 1-for-2 with a ground rule double and one run.
