Eric Forbes works on a truck in the new tire, wheel and alignment shop at 4x4 and More in Scotts Valley.

Scotts Valley-based 4×4 and More, 5040 Scotts Valley Drive, recently doubled the size of its shop and added tire, wheel and alignment services to its many offerings.
Owner Eric Forbes said the addition allows customers to make only a single stop for work on their car or truck.
“I was having to send them to other shops (for wheels, tires and alignment),” he said. “It was inconvenient for the customer.”
The new garage has added 1,500 square feet to Forbes operation, including a seven-ton lift and the ability to work on vehicles with tires up to 44-inches and rims up to 26 inches.
The shop was first opened in 1989 by Forbes’s parents, who operated it until 2003 when they closed it for six months. Forbes took over and has operated the shop since. He has three full time employees and a part time office clerk.
The shop specializes in four wheel drive vehicles, but offers steering, suspension, drive train and engine work for all types of vehicles except European makes. He has seen an uptick in work on Jeeps and customized four wheel drive vehicles that are used for off-road driving in places like the Rubicon and the Hollister Hills.
“The last thing we want is for someone to break down on the trail,” Forbes said, “so we overbuild things, rather than just get by.”
Forbes said he’s happy with the reputation his shop has earned over the years.
“I enjoy how rewarding it is,” he said. “I take price in what we’ve built.”
