40th reunion approaches
The San Lorenzo Valley High School Class of 1973 reunion will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at Hotel Paradox, 611 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at Henry Cowell Park in Felton.

New class in Ben Lomond
A seven week Qigong class will begin July 15 at the San Lorenzo Valley Senior Center, 8500 Highway 9 in Ben Lomond.
The class is taught by Linda Gobets and teaches gentle movements to help people become more comfortable in their bodies. The cost is $50 for general admission and $45 for seniors, or $10 for walk-ins. Additionally, Tai Chi may be taught if there is enough interest. Election filing opens for Alba District
Those interested in running for one of three open seats on the Alba Park, Parkway and Recreation District in the November election, are required to file with the Santa Cruz County Elections Department by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The election will be held Nov. 5.
Those interested must be at least 18-years-old, a California citizen and a register voter of the district. For information: wwww.votescount.com
 
Authors to sign Roaring Camp book
Beniam Kifle and Nathan Goodman will sign their recently released pictorial “Roaring Camp Railroads” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at Costco, 220 Sylvania Avenue in Santa Cruz.
The book chronicles the history of Roaring Camp Railroads 50-year history including never-before-seen images, stories and information about steam locomotive restoration and how Roaring Camp cares for its engines. 
 
Writer’s workshop approaches
The Golden Gate Chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers will host a writer’s workshop on research methods and resources from 9:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at the San Lorenzo Valley Historical Museum.
