Scotts Valley Kiwanis
In August the club held the third concert in its summer concert series. The club provides free music for the community and raise funds to support music education in our schools through the sales of food and beverages.
Club members presented a check to its 2013 scholarship winners. The Mike Smith scholarship is a $2,500 award that is open to any high school senior in Northern Santa Cruz County. The Grabill Scholarship for $1,000 is given to a senior who is active in any of the Key Clubs we sponsor.
The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley. The second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting at Bruno’s at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
San Lorenzo Valley Rotary
Rotary has a host of speakers this month. On September 4, Robin Bates from California Victim Witness; September 11, Kathy Ritchie of Bookshop Santa Cruz and the Education Outreach Program; on September 18, Boulder Creek Fire Chief Kevin McClish; and on September 25, Jeff Calden, Principal of SLV Middle School.
The club meets on Wednesdays at 7:15 a.m. in Birch Dining Room, 37 Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
 
Scotts Valley Rotary
Club members volunteered at the Scotts Valley Art and Wine Festival and poured beer. Several club members helped out with other tasks before and during the festival.
The club sponsored a back to school teachers breakfast this month, where teachers and administrators from the district were honored. Club members set up, served and presented each of the four schools with a check.
The club also collected new underwear and socks to be given to the homeless center. Additionally, the club provided 60 backpacks filled with school supplies to Valley Churches for children in the area. The club also got involved and donated to Lynda and Kidz Backpack Project which serves children in Santa Cruz County with backpacks filled with school supplies and nutritional snacks.
The club is launching a new project called Pay It Forward. We will be performing random acts of kindness wherever we may be. The Scotts Valley Rotary Club meets each Monday for lunch at 12:15 p.m. upstairs at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road.
