The fourth annual Tech Trek 5-kilometer fun run from Baymonte Christian School in Scotts Valley is set for a week from Saturday.
The annual race, set for Saturday, Oct. 12, will feature a 1-kilometer kids run, the 5-kilometer race, and for the first time a Tot Trot for runners 5-years-and-under.
Following the races a harvest festival featuring a raffle, food, and children’s activities will take place.
The Tot Trot begins at 8 a.m., followed by the 1-kilometer fun run at 8:15 a.m. and the 5-kilometer race at 8:30 a.m.
For the 5-kilometer run runners start at the beginning of South Navarra Road and gently wind through South Navarra Road and Green Hills Road before turning around on Green Hills and back again. It will finish on the Baymonte campus.
Runners can sign up online via www.baymonte.org or www.eventbrite.com. Registration is $25 for adults in the 5-kilometer and $15 for the 1-kilometer run. There are special rates for Baymonte students and staff.
The Tech Trek is the school’s primary fundraiser for its technology program. Last year, through sponsorship donations, race registration and the harvest festival, the school raised more than $33,000. Since the inaugural race in 2010, the race has raised $96,000 for Baymonte’s Instructional Technology Program.
Principal Steve Patterson said that this year’s race proceeds will go toward purchasing additional Smartboard interactive whiteboards, accelerated reader software and science equipment for project-based learning.
