Quarterback Jake Lobo connected with receiver Alex Turowski with 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to pull out a dramatic victory over host Soquel High School.
The Falcons trailed 14-7 entering the fourth quarter, but mounted a comeback to win the game and improve to 5-1 on the season, including 1-0 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.
In the fourth, kicker Loren Sorensen drilled a 27-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 14-0, before a final drive capped by Lobo’s 5-yard pass to Turowski, followed by a Jake Rehnberg 2-point conversion, sealed the deal.
Soquel dropped to 4-3 and 1-1 in league.
Rehnberg and Willie Johnston were again the offensive stars for Scotts Valley. The sturdy running back had 25 carries for 145 yards, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark on the season. Johnston rushed five times for 23 yards and caught five passes for 86 yards and a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Lobo was an efficient 9-for-14 for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Each team lost one fumble.
