Amateur radio class offered free in valley
The Santa Cruz VE Group will offer a free amateur radio technician license class in Felton starting on March 3.
The class is designed to introduce people to the art and science of amateur radio. Attendees will learn what makes amateur radio a unique communication method and learn the information needed to pass the FCC technician level license exam.
The class will use the “ARRL Ham Radio License Manual” and cover topics including radio signals and fundamentals; electricity, components and circuits; propagation, antennas and feed lines; amateur radio equipment; communicating with other hams, licensing regulations, operating regulations and safety.
The class will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays from March 3 to June 9 at Mountain Community Resources, 6134 Highway 9 in Felton.

Big Basin volunteers sought
Big Basin Redwoods State Park seeks curious, caring individuals to become docent volunteers for the park. Docents will learn about the old-growth redwoods and Big Basin’s cultural history and provide the opportunity to share with the public.
