Letter: Glenwood stop signs make crossing safer

The Scotts Valley City Council report printed in the Press-Banner (“Council notes,” Feb. 21, page 5) presented an inaccurate portrayal of the public comments presented at the city council meeting regarding the removal of the stop signs on Glenwood Drive at the Casa Way/Kerry Court intersection.
First, there were several Grace Way/Hacienda/Casa Way residents that spoke in opposition to the removal of the Glenwood Drive stop signs.
Secondly, the Kerry Court residents overwhelming voiced concerns about public safety on Glenwood Drive.
Certainly, being able to exit Kerry Court will become more difficult at certain times of the day but this was not the primary focus of their comments. Kerry Court residents spoke about how this stop sign has calmed traffic on Glenwood Drive and the crosswalk has provided a safe place for pedestrians to cross the street.
The stop sign in question may seem silly and feel like a nuisance to drivers headed back and forth to the high school.
Those of us who live in this neighborhood understand how this stop sign and crosswalk makes the Glenwood corridor safer for our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Removal of the stop sign will not solve the current traffic issues.
