Scotts Valley tops SLV on hardwood
The Scotts Valley High School boys varsity volleyball team defeated SLV in three games, 25-10, 25-16 and 25-18 on Thursday, March 27.
The win improved the Falcons to 2-4 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play and 5-4 overall.
Steve Lonhart had 24 assists to lead the Falcons and Ryan Rodriguez led the team with 13 kills. Bryce Einck chipped in with nine kills, Brett Turner with six, Steve Lonhart with five and Tanner Simonovich had two kills and two assists.
Tanner Simonovich also had three blocks and five aces while serving to lead the team. Scotts Valley next plays Mount Madonna High School Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at Scotts Valley High.
Cyclists takes 4th
Scotts Valley High School’s Porter Wesson of the Santa Cruz Mountains Composite Cycling Team took fourth place in the Varsity Boys Southern Conference race at Fort Ord on March 22. The race was third in the Norcal High School Cycling League race series, the Central Coast Classic.
Cycling expo this weekend
The fifth annual Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival will take place this weekend in the Aptos Village.
The two day event, April 5 and 6 is put on by Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz and Fox. The event is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and includes free bike demos, free service from Fox and SRAM, $25 shuttle rides to the top of Nisene Marks, a jump house, a free kids bicycle rodeo, a beer garden, food, raffles, silent auction and many vendors and bike shops.

SLV golf tournament approaches
The San Lorenzo Valley High School fund raising golf tournament seeks tee sponsorships and donations for the May 16 event at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club.
Tee sponsorships are $125 and business names will be on tee boxes during the tournament. Donated items and services will be raffled off during the tournament.
SLV is the only high school in the county that does not require athletes to “pay to play,” and the tournament is a major fundraiser toward this goal.
Foursomes are encouraged to register for the tournament. Cost is $90 per golfer and includes green fee, cart, drink tickets, BBQ tri-tip, chicken, sides and desert. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, April 30.

Scotts Valley tournament seeks participants
The Scotts Valley Falcon Club will hold its 14th annual golf tournament Friday, April 25 at DeLaveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz.
The cost is $175 for the best ball scramble tournament. The price includes a round of golf with a cart, lunch and barbecue dinner. Tee prizes, awards, a hole-in-one contest and closest to the pin and longest drive contests will also be in play separately for men and women.
