Art and wine in Bonny Doon
The Bonny Doon Art and Wine Festival will stage an artists’ preview and reception from 5 to 7 p.m. May 22 at Beauregard Vineyards, 10 Pine Flat Road, in Bonny Doon.
The event will kick off an art display and sale lasting through May 31 at the winery.
The festival itself is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 at the Bonny Doon Airport Gardens, 8647 Empire Grade Road. Tickets for the adults-only festival, which always sells out, are $30 each and can be obtained by calling 420-1555.
The festival is a fundraiser for Bonny Doon Elementary School. Organizers are looking to raise a record amount to mark the departure of school Principal Gail Levine.
Home tour to benefit Habitat for Humanity
A Craftsman-style house in Scotts Valley will be among several homes in a countywide Architects Association of Santa Cruz County architecture tour Saturday, May 16, to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Student fashionistas show off
The San Lorenzo Valley High School Fashion Club and SLV Arts Boosters will present “Fashion Takes Flight,” the spring student fashion show, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, May 22, May 23 and May 29, and at 2 p.m. May 30 at the school Performing Arts Center, 7105 Highway 9, in Felton.
The show will feature clothing that has been designed, sewn and modeled by students.
The annual fashion show is the major fundraiser of the year for the arts boosters. Proceeds will fund school art activities as well as provide scholarships for students who pursue the arts beyond high school.
Tickets are $7 for adults ($10 for front-row) and $5 for students, and can be purchased at the door or by e-mailing ke***********@ea*******.net.
Farmers market coming to Scotts Valley
It’s official: Saturday, Aug. 1, will mark the first day of the Scotts Valley Farmers Market.
The year-round market will take place in the Scotts Valley Community Center parking lot from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday.
Santa Cruz Community Farmers Market will run the market. The nonprofit also manages markets
in downtown Santa Cruz, Felton, Live Oak and on the west side of Santa Cruz.
SCCFM agreed to pay $20 per hour to rent the lot.
Montessori gets special certification
Montessori Scotts Valley has received the prestigious “Associated” certification from Association Montessori Internationale, making it the only school in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties with AMI certification.
The recognition program was started to assist parents in deciding whether a school follows the principles and practices of founder Maria Montessori, an Italian educator and devout Catholic.
The school is at 123 S. Navarra Drive, in Scotts Valley.

Fourth of July volunteers sought
Scotts Valley is looking for community volunteers to help staff the city’s Fourth of July parade and Fireworks Spectacular, the county’s only fireworks display.
Volunteers can work shifts from early afternoon to evening and receive free admission and dinner.
