Bethany volleyball notches win
Freshman Calai Brown had 18 kills and Kim Feidles added 15 to lead the Bethany University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Simpson University on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The Bruins improved to 3-11 on the season and 2-4 in the California Pacific Conference and dropped Simpson to 2-11 and 2-3 in conference.
The Bruins will play in the Bethany University alumni game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and will host Mills College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
Bruins freshman has breakout performance
Bethany University freshman Antony Earley finished 25th out of 141 runners to lead his teammates at the Crystal Springs Invitational on Oct. 3. Earley finished the 4.2-mile course in 22 minutes, 54 seconds and established himself as one of the contenders for the individual title at the Cal Pac Conference Championship on Nov. 6.
Freshman Alexandra Brunson led the Bruins women, finishing 63rd out of 113 runners. She was followed by freshman Janet Ashdown, who finished 64th.
SLV polo plays well in Hollister
The San Lorenzo Valley High girls water polo team won its first two games of the Hollister H2Oktoberfest tournament Saturday, Oct. 10.
The girls defeated Stevenson, 16-7, and then took down San Benito, 6-5.
The team is 1-5 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and 3-8 overall.
The Cougars play Harbor High at Cabrillo College at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, before closing the regular season at Aptos High at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
