2 local students to be honored at State Capitol
Comcast announced that more than $219,000 in scholarships will be distributed to 199 California high school seniors from 34 counties. On Wednesday, June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento, four local students will be saluted as part of this education event.
The two local winners of the 2015 Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Winners were Isaac Newberry of San Lorenzo Valley High School and Evan Milnes of Scotts Valley High School.

Fatal hit & run in Santa Cruz
The Santa Cruz Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle that fatally struck a female pedestrian near the area of Highway 1 and River Street on June 10.
Security camera footage revealed a silver colored vehicle in the area at the time of the accident. The vehicle that was involved with the collision would have sustained damage said the police report.
Anyone with information about the collision or the vehicle can contact the Investigations Unit at 420-5820 or the Tip Line at 420-5995. Tipsters can also submit an anonymous tip via the Santa Cruz Police Department Smartphone app.
San Lorenzo Valley Water District hosts community workshop
SLVWD announced that a public meeting will be held to host the second community workshop to prioritize the criteria upon which they will address the capital improvement program (CIP) projects over the next 10 years.
On June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., Brian Lee, District Manager, will ask for public input in selecting the eight to 10 top priorities that will apply to historical and new CIP projects. The meeting will be held at the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District Office located at 345 Marion Avenue in Ben Lomond.
“We appreciate the community’s assistance in identifying and rating the importance of the work in front of us,” said Lee. “Creating a plan guided by customer input is vital to the district.”
