San Lorenzo Valley High School:
In their first competition, San LorenzoValleyHigh School won at home in a pre-season game beating HomesteadHigh School from Cupertino, 49-27. Brighton Hart had 11 carries for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns; Scott Poetzinger had 13 carries for 74 yards and 1 touchdown; Mike LaCapria had 1 reception for 39 yards and a touchdown, Nick Salibi scored a running touchdown, and Hart had a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown, for a total of seven touch-downs. The next game is Friday, September 18, at Santa Clara High, 7:00 p.m.
ScottsValleyHigh School:
On September 18, it will be ScottsValleyHigh School vs. WatsonvilleHigh School at the Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.
Last week, the SVHS Falcons suffered a second loss of the season, at home, to CarmelHigh School, 32-24, with an improved showing compared to the first loss at LosBanosHigh School.
Tennis
San LorenzoValleyHigh School:
Girls’ Tennis: SLVHS started the season with a five games winless streak, including one SCCAL loss.
ScottsValleyHigh School:
Girl’s Tennis: SVHS is 3-6, with one league loss.
Water Polo:
San LorenzoValleyHigh School: The boys’ and girls’ water-polo teams have a great season start, both with 2-0 winning league records. The next games will all be at home:
Girls play vs. MontereyHigh School on Thursday, September 17, at 4:00 p.m. On Tuesday, September 22, at 4:00 p.m. they play against Harbor High.
Boys play on Tuesday, September 22, at 5:00 p.m. against HarborHigh School, and on Thursday, September 24, at 4:00 p.m. against StevensonHigh School.
Finally, it is ‘goodbye’ to April Beltz, who is moving to San Diego. She coached countless high school and middle school athletes during decades of her coaching career in the San LorenzoValley. She also started the Mountain Dream Softball program, which flourishes long after she stopped her involvement.
