On September 29, the Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Cruz Auto Theft Task Force raided a chop shop in the 400 block of Diane Way, Boulder Creek. Acting on an anonymous tip, the team recovered thirteen stolen motorcycles, trucks, cars and a trailer taken from a Mountain View church.
The vehicles were stolen from Santa CruzCounty, Oakland, Mountain View and Santa ClaraCounty. Many of the vehicles were in the process of being dismantled and their identification numbers removed.
A 31-year old resident, Julia Cabibi was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office for possession of controlled substance, possession of stolen vehicles, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. She was booked into the county jail and her bail amount was set at $5000.
Sheriff Jim Hart stated, “Due to an alert community member, along with a quick response and cooperative investigation by members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Auto Theft Task Force, a chop shop has been identified and taken out. This is yet another example of how the community and law enforcement can work together to combat crime.”
