The Scotts Valley High varsity football team will travel to San Lorenzo Valley for a battle of valley rivals after winning the past two meetings between the teams.
The game will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at San Lorenzo Valley High.
Both teams are in the hunt for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title, making the matchup a good one.
The Falcons are 2-0 in the SCCAL and ranked 13th in the Mercury News top-15 poll after their 51-7 defeat of Harbor High last week.
The Cougars (2-1 overall, SCCAL) lost a nail-biter to a tough St. Francis squad in the first league game of the season, but they have won two since then.
Scotts Valley is led by quarterback Blake Jurich, who has thrown for 1,345 yards and 12 touchdowns, and receiver Aldin Barrett, who notched seven touchdowns. Running back Jake Bergman is the team’s leading rusher with six touchdowns.
For the Cougars, workhorse running back Kyle Todd leads the league in rushing with 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. Trevor Romele has proven himself all over the field, throwing for 740 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 399 yards and another six touchdowns.
The Cougars lead the all-time series between the teams 5-3, though Scotts Valley blew out SLV a year ago, 53-14.
“It’s a rivalry game, and anything can happen in a rivalry game,” Falcons coach Louie Walter said. “Our kids are excited, and I’m sure their kids are, too.”
