Introducing Amanda Robinson Segers

Since 2011, Amanda Robinson Segers has been known for her vivacious involvement in community politics and volunteer activity within Santa CruzCounty. Known by many in ScottsValley, San LorenzoValley, Santa Cruz and SouthCounty as Amanda Robinson, she recently was married and is now Amanda Robinson Segers.
Graduated from Cal Poly in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and communications studies, Amanda spent several months in South America working with a disaster relief organization in Peru, before her arrival in Santa CruzCounty.
Spending time in South America was a career forming experience for her. In working with disaster relief, she found herself lobbying not to put landfill on the beaches South of Lima. “It was a localized event that taught me the value of working in my community to bring positive changes. I recognized that if I wanted to see changes happen in my community, in my lifetime that I had to get involved to help make it occur.”
Moving to Felton, Segers commenced her integration into the local political scene by volunteering for various organizations and causes. During the period of 2001-2013, she immersed herself in the needs of Mountain Community Recourses in Felton. There she proved her worth in promoting community causes and raising financial support for their projects. “I discovered that I enjoyed asking for donations that help benefit my community,” she said.
After demonstrating hers talent at MCR, she was invited by Eric Hammer to be his campaign manager. “Eric believed in my abilities and gave the opportunity to work with him on his political campaign for the 5^th District seat on the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors.” In 2014 she also managed the political campaigns for Santa Cruz County Sheriff, Jim Hart and the reelection of Assemblyman Mark Stone. Both won.
Segers was deeply involved in acquiring the community’s support for the Cotoni — Coast Dairies National Monument Campaign. Gaining the status of National Monument would elevate the protection of 5800 acres and provide free public access to north coast redwood forests of the Santa CruzMountains. Segers said “we collected 14,500 signatures of support for National Monument status. This is more than any National Monument campaign has ever captured.” She hopes that President Obama will approve the request.
In March, Segers was awarded Democrat of the Year by the Santa Cruz County Democratic Party. Present for the celebration, were her mother and father. “They were ecstatic. I was so glad they could be at the ceremony to meet everyone who encouraged me and has supported all my various endeavors.”
Her new position with Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks is a career move for Segers. She was recently hired as their Operation’s Administrator. Segers will be enjoying exactly what she wants to do. Her talent lies in diversity, challenge and flexibility. She said she never wanted a desk job that kept her tied to the predictable. She thrives on problem solving, especially in dynamic and evolving situations. Her heart is still in making good things happen in her community. She brings enthusiasm, intelligence and a vibrant personality to pave the way for her success, which is also success for her community. Currently that is in Felton/SLV and she said that she is planning on being there for a good long time.
