Football:
As the fall high school sports season ended, ScottsValley’s football team was the last one standing. On a last-second field goal, they lost a close, 37-35, semifinal Central Coast Section’s playoffs game to hosts Pacific Grove, thus ending an otherwise excellent season for the Scotts Valley Falcons.
Winter Sports:
Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League-sanctioned winter sports are: boys’ and girls’ basketball, soccer and wrestling. Outside the league, there are mountain-biking and surf teams.
Few preseason games were played to date. ScottsValley girls, a usual soccer powerhouse in the county, had one tie and two losses to date. Let’s hope that, like Falcons’ football, a slow start has nothing to do with the regular season and they will peak out at the right time.
Wrestling teams have been practicing. While getting ready for the league competition, San LorenzoValleyHigh School boys played one pre-season tournament, while ScottsValleyHigh School boys and girls wrestlers played five.
In girls’ basketball, San LorenzoValleyHigh School has one pre-season win. Dominating multiple league champions ScottsValleyHigh School’s Lady Falcons started their season on Wednesday, December 9, at the Santa Clara Tip-Off Classic.
Both SLVHS and SVHS boys’ teams have just begun their preseason schedule, with the big test of the annual Emmett Thompson Dads’ Tournament at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium on Thursday, December 10.
