WORK AHEAD: The intersection of highways 17 and 1, commonly known as the Fishhook.

A Caltrans project to resurface and widen the shoulders of Highway 17 in Santa CruzCounty was to begin on Monday, January 4, weather permitting. When the rain passes, Caltrans will need to reschedule their start date. In the meantime, their projected schedule is as follows:
Phase 1 will last approximately two months and will include the following closures:
–       Northbound Highway. 1 loop ramp (Fishhook) will be reduced to one lane and subject to full closures Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Motorists may detour onto Pasatiempo Drive.
–       Southbound Highway 17 is subject to be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.
Phase 2 will last approximately two months and will include the following closures:
–       Southbound Highway 17 will be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.
–       Northbound Highway 1 loop ramp (Fishhook) will be subject to lane and full closures
–       Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Motorists may detour onto Pasatiempo Drive.
Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 15-20 minutes. This project, when completed next spring, will create two dedicated lanes on northbound Highway 1 from the Fishhook. The contractor for this $1.2 million project is Granite Construction of Santa Clara, CA.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
