Scotts Valley Middle School Dolphins 8th grade basketball coach Rick Silver talks to his players during one of the overtimes' time-out.

On Friday, January 15, the Ed Kelly Post Season Tournament Championship game was hosted by Notre Dame Catholic School in Watsonville. The final score was Scotts Valley Middle School Dolphins (8th grade) 42 vs. Mission Hill Mavericks 40 after a triple overtime period.
“These two teams have competed with each other for three years,” said Coach Rick Silver. “Each winning one of the two games played for the regular season and league championship tournament each year.”
This year SVMS won the regular season game then won the Post Season Tournament Championship game. In the first quarter, the Dolphins went down by 9 points but they came back to within 2 points at the end of the second quarter according to Silver. “The game went back and forth throughout the third and fourth quarters,” said Silver.
Dillon Danner and Dylan Leonard were named to All Tournament Team and James Giblin was named as Tournament Most Valuable Player. Alma Black, SVMS Athletic Director, said of Giblin, “I have seen him play, and he is just quite the athlete! He gets the rebounds and steals the ball and is back on our side of the court to pass it to someone else. He is quick and agile and doesn’t seem to get many fouls.” She said, “I have enjoyed watching this young man develop over the past three years!”
