County and school officials open the new sidewalk route.

Mornings are easier for hundreds of parents and their school-age children in Boulder Creek.
Since Oct. 25, Boulder Creek Elementary has had new parking spaces and a drive-up area in front of the school, a long-time dream of the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District.
“Boulder Creek Elementary parents and students have been struggling with muddy pathways and limited parking in front of the school for many years,” said principal Denise Fosburgh.
The project was initiated by Fifth District County Supervisor Bruce McPherson, and the Santa Cruz County Public Works Department under the state’s “Safe Routes to School” program.
Superintendent, Dr. Laurie Bruton, and board members George Wylie, Jacqui Rice, and Kathie Ritchie visited the school for the Oct. 25 ribbon cutting.
“Supervisor McPherson and county officials have been exceptional partners to the SLV school district,” Bruton said. “We look forward to many more projects that provide safe ways for students and families to enter and exit our schools.”
One project in the works is a sidewalk along Highway 9 for the SLV High School, plus safety improvements to the METRO bus stop at the school.
