The announcement of a new principal for Scotts Valley High School was met with praise and excitement during a Scotts Valley Unified School District board meeting Tuesday evening. The Trustees approved the hiring of Michael Hanson to be the next Principal for SVHS. Mike has worked at SVHS since 2006 where he was hired as a science teacher.
Mr. Hanson taught in the International Baccalaureate Program and also held the position of Science Department Chair. Since 2013, Mike has been the Vice Principal at SVHS, and since the fall of this school year, he has been the Administrator in Charge.
“Mike knows and understands the school community and culture at SVHS and is the best person to be able to move the school forward in a positive manner,” said SVUSD Superintendent Tanya Krause. “There are many wonderful aspects and great accomplishments at SVHS, and working together, I trust that we can maintain the great reputation of SVHS, and also focus on the areas that deserve and need more attention.”
According to Krause, the District engaged in a comprehensive search and facilitated a thorough and extensive interview process. Krause, made her recommendation to the Board that she believed Mr. Hanson to be the best candidate to lead this school at this time.
Hanson will assume his new role as principal of SVHS on July 1, 2018. However, Krause said since Hanson is currently filling the role of Administrator in Charge he will likely begin to assume principal responsibilities before his “official” start day in July.
