The San Lorenzo Valley Historical Society (SLVHS), owner operator of the San Lorenzo Valley Museum in Boulder Creek, has welcomed longtime valley resident Nicole Berridge as new Director of Museum Operations.
Berridge holds a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from San Jose State University. Her non-profit experience includes a role as president of the Boulder Creek Elementary (BCE) Parent’s Club, coordinator of the Annual Boulder Creek Elementary Family Science Night and co-coordinator of the BCE Family Dinner Nights. She served as a member of the advisory body to the Boulder Creek Recreation and Parks Committee, as a cub scout Den Leader and a director of the Bracken Brae Country Club Board, where she served two terms as president.
“The Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Nicole to the San Lorenzo Valley Museum,” said Lisa Robinson, SLVHS Board President. “With a strong practical background in project management and administrative oversight, experience in fundraising and event planning, and many years in leadership roles in the non-profit sector, Nicole is a perfect fit to manage the day to day operations of the Museum and to manage the process of opening a second museum gallery in Felton.”
The Museum’s expansion project for 2020 is underway with plans to move into the site of the existing Felton library in the historic Faye Belardi Memorial building. The schedule is dependent upon the timing of the Felton library move to their new location just down the street.
The current museum’s next exhibit is “Big Trees” with an opening reception on Sunday April 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The exhibition will explore the natural and cultural history of Big Trees Park, formerly owned by the County of Santa Cruz and now part of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Displays will present features of the park that have been lost to time.
“The current children’s room will become an artifact visible storage area, which will enable us to both share the artifacts that are in storage and educate visitors about appropriate archival storage methods. The main room (the nave) will house both permanent and temporary exhibitions using movable freestanding walls so as not to hide the beautiful wainscoting currently hidden by the bookcases,” Robinson said. “And a K3, pre- and early- history school program, “Continuity and Change,” is in early development based on Common Core State Standards. A travelling trunk that compliments the program will be available for check out.”
