Bonny Doon Festival Returns Next Month

The community of Bonny Doon sits perched atop Ben Lomond Mountain, in the Coast Range. Thanks to its proximity to Monterey Bay, the area is a rich, fertile place to grow a variety of vegetables and fruit, but there’s one category of produce that does exceptionally well in the area: wine grapes. Acres of land are covered with vines that produce complex varietals, and those vintners are eager to show their wares at the upcoming Bonny Doon Art, Wine + Brew Festival, presented by the Bonny Doon Community School Foundation.

The 18th annual event is happening on Oct. 2 from 1-6pm.

The volunteer-run outdoor festival is a quaint community event that helps support Bonny Doon’s Elementary Schools art and science programs, says festival co-chair Kari Steele.

“Neighboring communities are invited to come out for the day, taste local wine and beer, shop local artists and artisans, groove to three bands, participate in the wine pull, bid on great items in the silent and online auction and eat some tasty food from local food vendors,” Steele said. “This festival gives you some of the best of Santa Cruz all around. This is a small event with limited ticket availability that takes place outdoors in a wide open space. The CZU fire and pandemic had a huge impact on fundraising for the Bonny Doon Elementary School; this festival is the lifeline for the schools arts and science program.”

Steele and her fellow chairpersons are excited to introduce attendees to local vendors and artists like stop motion animator Bridget Henry; Bonny Doon Farm, a purveyor of handmade soaps, sachets and salves; Field Notes Farm & Studio, which offers goat milk soaps, and a bevy of jewelry makers, wall art and home goods.

A multitude of wineries and breweries will be featured, along with musical interludes by Sandy Mountain, Coast Ridge Ramblers and the Dave Holodiloff Band. In addition, attendees can peruse the auction items available, and enjoy a bite from the food trucks that will be parked at the event.

Cheers!

Attendees must be 21 to attend, and pets are not allowed. Interested? Tickets are available on eventbrite.com; advanced purchase is $60, and day-of purchase (on-site only) is $85. For information and tickets, visit bonnydoonartandwinefestival.com.
