Children raced across the field during the egg scramble, parents swayed as a worship band played and about 100 volunteers cooked hotdogs, directed traffic and ensured the safety of bounce-house bounders.
It was all part of the Eggapalooza held at Gateway Bible Church in Scotts Valley Saturday from 4-6pm.
“We used to do this years ago and there would be 5,000 people,” said Ron Marsh, the church’s lead pastor. “We know it’s going to be lower-key.”
But Marsh said, after the event’s Covid-19 hiatus, it was just good to be back creating a community atmosphere for families.
“Coming out of the pandemic, we were like, ‘Let’s do it,’” he said, adding the weekend features three of the most important dates on their calendar.
During the Easter season, along with Christmas, the average person is 75% more likely to attend a service, he added.
However, it had begun to rain that morning.
“We were worried,” he said. “We decided we were going to do it rain or shine.”
But before the age-divided egg hunts started and the petting zoo lines emerged, the clouds parted.
“Perfect timing with the sun coming out,” he said.
