What do The Adventure Gift Store, Air and Fire, Boulder Creek Outfitters, Treasures from the Attic, Viscosity, Lille Aeske, and the Springy Girl all have in common? They, along with at least eight other businesses, are located downtown Boulder Creek (B.C.), and on Oct. 31, are participating in Monday Night’s Big Halloween Bash, Trick or Street community event.
We like our local shops to offer us excellent quality services and products. We want business owners to enjoy what they do, appreciate their customers and greet us with warm smiles, and even more importantly, those who give back to the community. Downtown BC does this and more.
Jeanette, at Lille Aeske, told me she was delighted with why the Boulder Creek Business Association (BCBA) holds this annual event during Halloween. “This is a cool tradition in B.C. In the mountains, homes are spaced too far apart, and kids are not safe to go trick-or-treating.
This event is a family affair not just for the kids, but for the adults & their dogs.” In other words, who doesn’t appreciate businesses that enjoy having fun too?
Fun for All
I heard about this fabulous event in our Historic Downtown Boulder Creek on Halloween Night, starting at 5pm and was curious. Last Saturday, I stopped by the shops to learn more about this famous and fun annual B.C. Trick-or-Street festival and parade of frights and delights. I could have spent the entire day visiting each person working, but they had customers to attend to, so after I finished talking with some of the shop owners, I felt proud and excited to be a part of San Lorenzo Valley.
Community & Connection
As I continued my walk downtown, I heard the same type of response from each person. Why did they participate in this event, and all of their answers included community and connection.
Downtown Boulder Creek banded together, enduring the fire and the pandemic shutdown. Now they band together again, celebrating another Halloween, where the community can catch up with their friends and neighbors, safely hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters and enjoy an evening of transformed personalities dressed up in costume. I heard, too, that even the dogs arrive in their favorite alter-ego costume.
One person shared, “…this is a community-building affair. B.C. is a strong community where we can come together. During this event, we have a good mix of adults who dress up just like the kids, with lots of laughter in the air.”
Here is a shout-out to you readers about this upcoming fun event in our Valley. It’s local and organized by the BCDA. If you are longing for more community, in-person connections, where it is a family affair: arrive early, visit the shops, and eat dinner and the candy afterward.
