In preparation for the Scouting for Food collection day on Nov. 4, Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council Scouts will be distributing 135,000 door hangers throughout neighborhoods in Santa Cruz, San Benito, Santa Clara and Monterey counties.
This initiative enables residents to prepare food donations for pick-up, according to a press release.
Local Scouts and their families are participating in the annual Scouting for Food initiative, identified as “Scouting’s commitment to making a difference in the community.”
In 2022, the regional scout council’s Polaris District contributed to 25% of all the food donations, with Pack 415 collecting over 5,300 pounds of food for West Valley Community Services, an organization that targets hunger and homelessness. This significant achievement was part of a larger, council-wide initiative, uniting Scouts from over 150 units, resulting in the collection of more than 44,000 pounds of food for local food banks.
On the first three Saturdays of November, Scouts from SVMBC, along with several other Councils across Northern California, including Golden Gate, Piedmont, Redwood Empire and Pacific Skyline Council, will host a Scouting for Food collection day.
