Roaring Camp plans Mother’s Day Brunch
Make Mother’s Day memorable for mom on her special day by treating her to Roaring Camp’s Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet and train ride on May 12.
Enjoy an elegant and delectable brunch while listening to soothing live music from local artists. Bring the entire family for a day of fun. Kids craft tables are open from 10am-3pm.
Brunch seating is at 9am, 10:30am and 12pm. Pair brunch with a scenic train ride through a majestic redwood forest. Reservations required. Forest Trains depart at 10:30am, 12pm and 1:30pm.
Beach trains depart from Roaring Camp to Santa Cruz at 10am and 2pm; from Santa Cruz to Roaring Camp at 12pm. Reservations are recommended.

North County Dems host Affordable Housing Month speaker
In recognition of Affordable Housing Month, Julie Conway, former Santa Cruz County Planning Department Housing Manager and current Chair of Santa Cruz City’s Planning Commission, will be the guest speaker for the Democratic Club of North Santa Cruz County’s meeting on Tuesday, May 14.
Conway will discuss efforts to address the ongoing housing crisis, answer frequently asked questions about what affordable really means and provide information about income eligibility criteria for affordable housing.
Club meetings are held upstairs at Bruno’s Bar and Grill located at 230 Mt. Hermon Road in the Kings Village Shopping Center in Scotts Valley. Meetings start at 6:30pm.
Arrive early at 6pm to write postcards and letters to support Democratic candidates in competitive races. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Big Basin Water Company Town Hall set for Wednesday
Santa Cruz County Supervisor Bruce McPherson and Serviam by Wright LLP, the Court Receiver for the Big Basin Water Company Inc., have announced a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, May 15, from 6:30-8pm at the Boulder Creek Fire Protection District, 13230 Central Ave.
Nicolas L. Jaber, attorney and project manager for the Court Receiver, will lead the Town Hall.
Offered in a hybrid in-person and virtual format, the Town Hall will provide members of the Big Basin Water community with an opportunity to receive a six-month update from Jaber, who first addressed ratepayers in November 2023 shortly after his firm’s appointment as Court Receiver by the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Santa Cruz.
There will be ample time for questions from the in-person audience and those joining virtually or by phone through Zoom.
Members of the offices of Sen. John Laird, Assemblymember Gail Pellerin and Congressman Jimmy Panetta are expected to attend. Representatives from the State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water, Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Public Utilities Commission, and the Santa Cruz Local Agency Formation Commission have also been invited.
