The Hawks, a local U10 youth soccer team, remain undefeated this season in the Scotts Valley/San Lorenzo Valley Soccer Club Bronze League.
This group of kids has been playing together for three-plus years under head coach Jessica Holbrook.
The Hawks earned first place at the Halloween Tournament at Cabrillo College on Oct. 27. The players dressed up as referees for the games.
Girls’ tennis
Falcons duo advance to finals: Scotts Valley High seniors Sofia Niklaus and Erin Szymanski advanced into the doubles finals at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Girls Tennis Championships on Nov. 6.
The top seeded Falcons duo will take on Aptos’ Coral Collins and Isabella Calderon at Imperial Courts Tennis Club in Aptos on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
The biggest upset in Tuesday’s second round went to Collins and Calderon, the No. 3 seed, who beat the No. 2 seed Santa Cruz team of Francesca Garces and Lou Ellis 6-0, 6-3.
In singles play, Scotts Valley junior Aila Papadopoulos, the No. 2 seed, had to retire in the semifinals after losing the first set to No. 3 Aviana Andrews of Aptos due to a sore shoulder.
Papadopoulos has been doing double duty, playing No. 1 singles throughout the season for the Falcons while also playing a key role on the girls’ volleyball team.
Andrews faces fellow teammate and top seed Kiana Safari in the singles final also on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
Girls’ volleyball
At Scotts Valley 3, Monte Vista Christian 1: The surging No. 4 seed Falcons (21-10, 7-5) advanced into the Central Coast Section Division IV semifinals following a four set win over the No. 5 Mustangs on Tuesday evening. Scotts Valley plays at top seed Harbor High (20-9) on Thursday night at 7pm.
