New idea for town center proposal

Over the years, the members of the Scotts Valley City Council have been actively exploring and promoting the idea of a town center to be built on the grounds of the former airport property. And, over the years, a few out-of-town developers have prepared different mixed-use housing (stack and pack) with retail space proposals.

Have the council members ever asked the good citizens of Scotts Valley if they want or need a town center made up of mixed use buildings surrounded by asphalt and concrete “landscaping”? Do we want every square inch of bare land in the city to be built up for the profit of others?

Why not explore a green space option for our town center. We have a sports field, skate park and dog park. Let’s join that together with a town center public garden made up of greenery, paths, fountains, benches and a playground for children.

We have lived for many years without building on the proposed space. Let’s go with a scenic, green and enjoyable park for our citizens and visitors, and call that our town center.
