City of Scotts Valley will celebrate the reopening of the newly replaced Skypark Big Kid Playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Jan. 31, from 11am-1pm, at Skypark, 361 Kings Village Road.

The event will begin with a brief ceremony and official ribbon cutting at 11am, followed by family-friendly activities inviting the community to explore the new, inclusive play space.

The playground replacement was funded by $750,000 in Community Project Funding awarded to the city through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with support from Rep. Anna Eshoo. The funding allowed the city to fully replace the aging playground with a modern design serving children ages 6-12.

City officials said community input shaped the project, with residents providing feedback through online surveys and in-person outreach events. More than 300 public responses were collected during the design process.

The selected Volo Aire design features layered climbing elements, tunnel slides, a net climbing structure and a four-bay swing that includes a fully inclusive arch swing accessible to multiple users, including children using wheelchairs.

“We are excited to welcome families to celebrate this milestone for Scotts Valley and experience what will soon become their favorite playground in Santa Cruz County,” said Recreation Division Manager Allison Pfefferkorn.
