Grace Purtscher led the Cougars with two hits and one RBI, while teammate Audrey Jouglet had one hit and one RBI.
Sophia Sarmiento had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored one run for SLV—which dropped to 3-2 in the SCCAL standings.
Aptos jumped two games ahead, improving to 5-0 this season.
Elie Colby had one hit, one stolen base and scored twice for the Cougars, while teammates Brooke Reed and Bailey Filice each had one run scored.
In the circle, Purtscher allowed six runs on nine hits and had four walks while striking out five batters in six innings pitched.
SLV (6-5-1, 3-2) hosts Harbor (2-5, 0-4) in SCCAL action on April 14 at 4:30pm.
High school baseball
Cougars drop ninth straight contest: Brody Egner and Porter Boyd each had one hit and one RBI in SLV’s 11-3 loss against Soledad in nonleague play April 4.
Larrabee Mitchell had one double and scored one run, while teammate Noah Carter had one hit, one stolen base and one run scored.
Spencer Bruce had one hit and scored one run for the Cougars, who dropped to a 1-14 overall record this season.
SLV (1-14, 0-5) plays at Harbor (10-5, 3-2) on April 14 at 4pm.
Falcons lose back-to-back: Junior Rex Thompson had a team-best two hits and one RBI in Scotts Valley’s 4-2 loss to Harbor in SCCAL action April 3.
Teammate junior Monte Jordan finished with one hit and scored one run, while junior Nick Acton had one base hit.
Bryce McDonnell recorded one RBI, while teammate junior Owen Martin scored one run for the Falcons, who dropped to 2-3 in league play this season.
McDonnell allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four batters in five innings.
Elliott Smith, a sophomore, allowed three runs on two hits for Scotts Valley, which was coming off an 11-4 loss to Aptos in SCCAL play on March 31.
Scotts Valley (5-8, 2-3) plays at Stevenson in nonleague play on Friday at 4pm.
Boys tennis
Falcons’ win streak snapped: Gary Kuriakose and Aidan Verhulp were the lone winners in Scotts Valley’s 6-1 defeat to Santa Cruz in SCCAL play on April 2.
Kuriakose and Verhulp outlasted Santa Cruz’s Owen Heinz and Rowan Elfers to win the three-set tiebreaker 7-6, 2-6 (10-7) at No. 2 doubles.
Scotts Valley (3-6, 3-2) plays at Soquel (4-2, 4-0) on April 14 at 4pm.
Boys volleyball
Falcons win two out of three: Will Shanks had 10 kills and nine digs in Scotts Valley nonleague victory against Pacific Collegiate in three sets 25-12, 29-27, 25-16 on April 1.
Teammate Troy Thompson had a team-best 35 assists to go along with three digs and a pair of service aces, while Ben Luckey had seven kills, five digs and a pair of blocks.
The Falcons also recorded a sweeping win over Soquel in three sets 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 in SCCAL play March 31.
Scotts Valley (4-16, 2-4) hosts Harbor in SCCAL play on April 14 at 7pm.
Girls flag football
Falcons looking for head coach: Scotts Valley is searching for a new head coach to run the girls flag football program after athletic director and tackle football head coach Louie Walters stepped down in March.
“I was happy to start that program from scratch and the success we had in quick time,” said Walters in a text message.
Walters led the Falcons to an SCCAL championship in 2024 and they were runner-up in 2025. Anyone interested in applying should reach out to Walters at lw******@*************sd.org.
