Civil Grand Jury applications due soon
Santa Cruz County Superior Court is accepting applications for its Civil Grand Jury, a 19-member volunteer panel that reviews local government operations and issues recommendations to improve transparency, efficiency and accountability.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old and residents of Santa Cruz County for at least one year. No prior experience is required. Members typically serve 10-20 hours per week and receive a per diem stipend and mileage reimbursement.

Youth Resource Bank hosts fundraiser
Santa Cruz County Youth Resource Bank (YRB) will host its annual “Investing in Our Children” fundraising event on Saturday, April 25, from 3-6pm at Bargetto Winery.
Founded in 1988, the all-volunteer nonprofit supports children and youth in need across Santa Cruz County and provided assistance to more than 600 youth in 2025.
The event, set in the winery’s historic cellars, will feature live music by the Matt Masih Trio, along with wine and gourmet charcuterie, including vegan options. Attendees can also participate in a live and silent auction, with more than 80 items up for bid.
Proceeds from the event will benefit vulnerable children and youth throughout Santa Cruz County. Tickets are available online at youthresourcebank.org/event.
Wharf end repairs complete in Santa Cruz
City of Santa Cruz will celebrate the completion of interim repairs at the south end of the Santa Cruz Wharf on Wednesday, April 29, reopening the area to the public following damage from winter storms in 2024.
Construction began in November 2025 and was scheduled during the off-season to reduce impacts on businesses, visitors and wildlife. Portions of the wharf remained open during the project. With repairs finished, visitors can again walk to the end of the wharf and take in views of Monterey Bay.
A reopening event is planned April 29 from 3-5pm at the south end of the wharf, featuring remarks from city leaders and family-friendly Parks and Recreation activities.
Hostel Society seeks board nominations
Santa Cruz Hostel Society is accepting nominations to fill three open seats on its Board of Directors, with applicants required to reside in Santa Cruz County.
The nonprofit is governed by an eight-member board focused on promoting diversity, experiential travel and hostelling. Board members serve two-year terms beginning May 1, 2026, and are expected to attend quarterly meetings and participate in at least one of five committees.
Applications will be shared with society members, who will review candidates and vote on new board members. The nomination deadline is 5pm on Thursday, April 30.
