Scotts Valley junior Rex Thompson lit up the stat sheet for the Falcons in a 10-2 victory over San Lorenzo Valley in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson finished with two hits, including one double, three RBIs, two stolen bases and scored a pair of runs.

Teammate Bryce McDonnell finished with one hit and a pair of RBIs, while Nick Acton had one hit and scored one run. Monte Jordan recorded two hits and scored two runs, while Owen Martin tallied three runs scored.

Asa Swanson added a pair of hits and two RBIs for Scotts Valley, which snapped a seven game losing streak. On the mound, Acton and Jordan each had two strikeouts.

SLV senior Brody Egner finished with two hits, while teammates Sean Johnson, Noah Carter, Porter Boyd and Liam Fields-Rapley each had one base hit.

Scotts Valley (6-13, 3-7) and SLV (3-17, 1-8) have a rematch set for Friday at 4pm.

High school softball

Falcons sweep doubleheader: Scotts Valley recorded back-to-back wins against Harbor in SCCAL play on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior slugger Chloe Kent had four base hits, including one triple and one double, to go along with six RBIs and a pair of scored runs to help lift the Falcons past the Pirates for a 14-4 win in the first game.

Sophomore Gabriella Gauthier added three hits, two RBIs and scored three runs for Scotts Valley, while teammates Emma Gilbert, Jazzy Phillips, Isabella Williams, Natalie Murray-Skalland and Brooklyn Williams each had one base hit.

Phillips finished with four strikeouts in the circle, while Kent tallied five for Scotts Valley, which improved to 5-4 in SCCAL play this season.

Sophomore Jillian Oing had two doubles, three RBIs and scored a pair of runs for the Falcons in a 16-6 victory over the Pirates in the second game of the afternoon. Gauthier finished with three hits, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs, while Murray-Skalland had one triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Kent recorded nine strikeouts for Scotts Valley (6-8-1, 5-4), which hosts Soquel in SCCAL play Thursday at 4:30pm.

Cougars fall to Aptos: Elie Colby had a team-best three base hits for SLV, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars were edged by Aptos, 4-2, in SCCAL play Tuesday afternoon.

Colby had one double and scored one run, while teammate Grace Purtscher had two hits, including one double, to go along with one RBI and scored one run. Maddy Murphy also had a pair of hits, including one double.

Purtscher allowed four runs on six hits while recording two strikeouts in seven innings pitched for SLV (8-7-1, 5-4), which plays at Harbor in SCCAL play Thursday at 4:30pm.

Boys tennis

Falcon duo falls in SCCAL doubles final: Scotts Valley’s Raphael Bouchet and Colin Johnston fell to top seeded tandem Tenzin Fathman and Kai Vargas of Santa Cruz in the SCCAL Tournament doubles finals at Imperial Courts Tennis Club on Wednesday.

Fathman and Vargas will represent the SCCAL in the Central Coast Section playoffs, which begin on May 19.

The Falcon duo, who entered the tourney as the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 3 Oscar Sapunor and Ian Burchell of Santa Cruz in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at Imperial Courts Tennis Club in Aptos on Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to that, Bouchet and Johnston defeated Sawyer Amos and Colton Scarborough of SLV in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of the SCCAL tourney.

Scotts Valley wrapped up its league season on Monday as it defeated a short-handed Aptos squad, 5-2.

With the win, the Falcons placed third with a 6-4 record in SCCAL play behind undefeated league champion Santa Cruz (9-0) and second place Soquel (8-1).
