Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries is issuing a spring call for volunteers, highlighting opportunities to serve on branch committees across the county library system.

The organization supports all 10 branches of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, each of which reflects the character and sense of place within its local community. Branch Friends volunteers provide targeted support and attention to their neighborhood libraries.

Friends support their branch and the wider library system through fundraising events, literacy initiatives and other programs that promote lifelong learning, as well as by enhancing collections and equipment and taking part in community outreach and advocacy efforts aimed at expanding public understanding of library services.

The organization says it strives to represent diverse community perspectives, with volunteers spanning all ages and career stages. Alexis Monoogian said she is motivated to support the Boulder Creek Friends because “I’m a homeschooling parent who relies on the library system extensively for my children.”

The Friends are inviting community members to contribute time and skills to their local libraries, noting benefits that include community connection and personal fulfillment. Branch committee and board of directors roles begin in June, with a May 20 deadline to express interest.
