‘Jurassic’ musical opens in Ben Lomond
Little People’s Repertory Theatre will present “Jurassic Jungle Book: A Three-Hour Tour,” an original rock musical by Jannine Chadwick, July 15-26 at Park Hall in Ben Lomond.
Directed by Daria E. Troxell with music and vocal direction by Gabe House, performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays.
The production follows seven sightseeing boat passengers who become stranded on a tropical island inhabited by talking jungle animals, Mowgli, ninja turtles, dinosaur hunters and other colorful characters. The family-friendly musical features more than 20 musical numbers performed by a cast of children ages 7 to 14 singing and dancing to parodies of contemporary pop songs and classic rock hits.
Advance ticket reservations are recommended, as performances often sell out. Tickets and additional information are available at lprt.org.
Scotts Valley targets speeding enforcement
Scotts Valley Police Department is increasing traffic enforcement throughout July as part of a campaign encouraging motorists to slow down and obey posted speed limits.
Additional officers will be on patrol looking for drivers who are speeding or traveling too fast for road, traffic or weather conditions.
According to the department, speeding remains a leading factor in fatal crashes. The 2025 California Traffic Safety Survey found speeding is the top traffic safety concern among California drivers. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows 11,288 people were killed in speeding-related crashes nationwide in 2024, including 1,139 in California.
Police encourage drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, follow posted speed limits, adjust their speed for road and weather conditions, and avoid aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating and weaving through traffic.
Overnight Highway 9 closure scheduled near Boulder Creek
Caltrans has scheduled a full overnight closure of Highway 9 near Boulder Creek on Thursday, July 23, as part of the Highway 9 San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge Replacement Project.
The closure is planned from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Pool Drive and Primavera/Old County Highway at Kings Creek Bridge, where crews will install 100-foot-long precast concrete girders for the southbound portion of the new bridge.
A detour will be available via Highway 17, with message boards and directional signs posted in advance of the closure. Caltrans advises motorists to allow extra travel time, and nearby residents should expect overnight construction noise.
Temporary traffic signals will resume 24-hour one-way traffic control the morning of July 24. Caltrans said the bridge replacement project north of Boulder Creek is replacing the southbound portions of the Kings Creek and San Lorenzo River bridges to improve safety and that additional overnight closures are expected as work progresses.
