Sometimes the people making the biggest difference in our community aren’t the ones seeking attention. They are simply showing up every day, solving problems and helping their neighbors. That perfectly describes Mike Boffy, our downtown Felton Farmers Insurance agent.

For many San Lorenzo Valley residents, finding fire insurance has become almost as stressful as preparing for wildfire season itself. Since the CZU Fire, homeowners have faced an entirely different landscape. Long-trusted insurance companies stopped writing new policies or declined to renew existing ones, leaving many families wondering where to turn.

That is where Mike Boffy quietly makes a difference.

To many, he is an insurance agent. To the families he serves, he has become something much more: a trusted guide helping them navigate one of the most confusing and frustrating insurance markets California has ever experienced. Rather than simply selling policies, Mike takes the time to help people understand their options so they can protect what matters most: their families, their homes and their peace of mind.

Learning a Complex Business

Mike’s career path was anything but ordinary. After serving in the Navy and spending years in sales, he discovered insurance was more than numbers and paperwork. It was about people.

Every family has a different story. Every property presents its own challenges. “This is exactly what attracted me to this profession,” he said. Mike enjoys asking questions, solving problems, and finding coverage that truly fits each client’s unique situation rather than trying to force everyone into the same solution.

Why Experience Counts

Experience matters, especially today.

Mike explained that “insurance regulations continue to change. Carriers enter and leave California.” Coverage options shift, underwriting becomes more restrictive, and policies that appear similar often provide very different levels of protection.

Mike stays on top of those changes so his clients do not have to. He invests countless hours understanding new guidelines and translating complicated insurance language into conversations people can actually understand. His goal is simple: “…help homeowners make informed decisions before they ever need to file a claim.”

Lessons From CZU Fire

The 2020 CZU Fire forever changed San Lorenzo Valley, and it changed Mike as well. Working alongside families who had lost their homes gave him firsthand insight into how insurance performs when disaster strikes. He witnessed where coverage protected homeowners and where unexpected gaps created additional hardship.

Those experiences reinforced something he has believed ever since: choosing insurance should never be based solely on price. Understanding the policy before disaster occurs can make all the difference afterward.

Helping the Community

One reality remains painfully clear. Finding fire insurance in our Valley has become extraordinarily difficult.

When Farmers Insurance cannot provide coverage, Mike continues searching. He works with other carriers and, when necessary, helps homeowners understand California’s FAIR Plan along with other available options.

His philosophy is straightforward: “Never stop looking for a solution.” Over the years, Mike has helped well over one thousand local households, a reflection of the trust he has earned within the community rather than through advertising.

A Neighbor First

As I listened to Mike share his experience, what stood out most wasn’t his technical knowledge, although that is certainly impressive. It was his genuine commitment to helping people. He doesn’t view clients as policy numbers; he sees neighbors who deserve someone willing to advocate for them during one of the most important financial decisions they will make.

In a community still recovering from wildfire and facing an uncertain insurance future, that kind dedication matters.

Mike Boffy has quietly become one of those professionals working behind the scenes, helping families navigate complicated decisions with honesty, patience and persistence. Sometimes the greatest service isn’t simply finding an insurance policy. It’s giving people confidence that someone is standing beside them, helping them find a way forward.
