Hello, friends of Strictly Business:

Every great program has a beginning, and often the people who planted the first seeds are not the ones we read about today. Their stories don’t always make it into every article, so I want to take this opportunity to go back in time and thank the early volunteers who founded Damians Ladder and helped it grow into the program our Valley knows today.

Since my recent article on Damians Ladder, I have heard from readers who care deeply about this organization and its history. Their kind words reminded me how much this program means to our community, and how important it is to honor everyone who helped build it.

Today, Ann Bennett Young leads Damians Ladder, but long before I learned about this program, a group of dedicated people had the vision and heart to bring it to life.

Please allow me to recognize the founders who first conceived of Damians Ladder, an oversight I wish to acknowledge here:

Founders:

Colly Gruczelak

Dave Hodgin

First Board Members:

Colly Gruczelak, President

Melissa Lanctot, Vice President

David Hodgin, Treasurer

Ann Bennett Young, Secretary

Darshana Croskey, Events

Coco Ranier Walter

The original mission: “Make home repairs by volunteers at no cost to the homes of low-income seniors and persons with disabilities, enabling them to live in their homes safely and comfortably.”

To each of you, thank you. Our Valley is stronger because of what you started, and I am grateful to share your part of the story now.
