EDITOR,
From the point of view of someone who’s lived through the death of JFK, the Vietnam War, and what Bob Dylan called in a song, “Times Are Strange,” I find it important to have finely honed critical-thinking skills. This means that you are able to read between the lines and think for yourself, instead of believing everything you read — especially since many newspapers have become sensationalistic just to make a buck.
I would be concerned if a president didn’t change some of the promises he’d made on the campaign trail to fit changing situations — especially given the mess our current president has inherited.
Alterations in the health care program, and yes, even in the time plan of the withdrawal from the war zone for the sake of our young men, are totally acceptable, even to a totally anti-war child of the ’60s.
We need flexibility, intelligence and an open mind to make it in this world, and President Obama has those qualities.
Please give him a break and give him some time to find some solutions.
We’re on your side, President Obama.
