Highway 9 at Glen Arbor Road in Ben Lomond has been completely closed for more than 12 hours on Tuesday, after a 17-year-old boy wrecked his vehicle and damaged power lines along the two-lane highway.
The accident occurred at 4:02 a.m. and knocked out electricity to 2,400 Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers, according to spokeswoman Monica Tell.
“The driver of the vehicle actually took down one of our poles, knocked down the transformer and damaged an additional three poles,” Tell said at 4:30 p.m., 12 hours after the incident. “Because of the amount of damage done, our crews are still making repairs.”
All but 24 customers were back on by 9:06 a.m., Tell said. Those customers were likely to be out until the final repairs were made.
PG&E hopes to have the road re-opened by 6 p.m., but Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol have estimated the road will re-open by 8 p.m.
