A memorial service will be Jan. 15 for Adams George “Chip” O’Brien II, who died Dec. 28 in Santa Cruz. He was 55.
A native of Duluth, Minn., Mr. O’Brien moved to Silicon Valley for his work with Signetics before settling in Boulder Creek, where he made his longtime home and gained many friends as groundskeeper at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club and barkeep (and one-time owner) at the White Cockade Pub.
Family and friends said his love of the outdoors was born through exploration of the woods surrounding the family home with 80 acres and spending summers at the family cabin. He loved golf, football and the redwoods of Boulder Creek.
He enjoyed working at the golf course and pub and took pride in his jobs. Relatives said he was always ready with a smile, a joke or a comment to make the listener laugh or smile, and he was helpful, considerate and honorable.
Mr. O’Brien is survived by his sister, Marcia Kenna, and her husband, John, of Centennial, Colo.; a nephew and a niece, and their families; three aunts; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Jane (Larson) and Adams George O’Brien.
A potluck memorial service is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 15 at Scopazzi’s Restaurant, 13300 Big Basin Way, in Boulder Creek. For information: Frank Sandt, 338-7552.
