A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in Santa Cruz on Saturday, Feb. 25, for Scotts Valley resident Alva “June” Toussaint, who died this month. She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Toussaint was born in San Jose to Alva and Bertha Thrift. In her 20s, she managed a photography studio in downtown San Jose, where she met her future husband, who was a police officer in the city. They were married 59 years.
Mrs. Toussaint lived 84 years in San Jose before moving to Scotts Valley six years ago. She enjoyed a summer home in Boulder Creek for many years.
Relatives said Mrs. Toussaint enjoyed playing bridge, oil painting, gardening, sewing and crafting, cooking and baking and participating in a Bible study in San Jose.
Mrs. Toussaint is survived by three children, Dan Toussaint of Scotts Valley, Janet Toussaint Schulze of Scotts Valley and Lory Moses of Elko, Nev.; a brother, Bud Thrift of Capitola; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Hal Toussaint, and her parents.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Santa Cruz Bible Church, 440 Frederick St., in Santa Cruz.
