EDITOR,
During this time leading up to the election, I and many other residents of Lompico have received a string of nasty e-mails from anonymous writers; shades of last year’s anonymous posts on the Press-Banner’s comments pages, and written, as far as I can tell, by the same people.
It’s easy to write anything one wishes when one doesn’t use one’s name; in this instance, the e-mails and online comments are full of distortions, baseless accusations and general mean-spiritedness; they twist others’ words and deeds, and one of them was rather threatening.
I know that these writers are a very small handful of people and don’t in any way represent Lompico. The vast majority of us are good people who wouldn’t dream of treating our neighbors, or anyone else, in this way. I hope that people outside of Lompico will not judge us all by this small group.
I also hope that the voters of Lompico consider who is being supported by these e-mails and who is being attacked. I know that I don’t vote for candidates whose campaigns engage in this kind of behavior, and this has made me even stronger in my support for Rob Hansel and Sean Wharton, and the present board of directors of Lompico County Water District, than I was before. If people who act like this don’t like them, they must be doing something right.
Merrie Schaller, Lompico
