The Responsible Local Development political action committee identified and spoke to a Scotts Valley man who admitted to attacking the groups Web site in early July.
RLD PAC spokesman Paul Bach said the group used meta-data in the computer code of the comments left on their website, www.rldpac.org to identify the man, a Scotts Valley resident in the construction business.
“We contacted the person on Thursday or Friday last week and confirmed they are the person who did it,” Bach said.
The groups comment section on the Web site was hit with sexually explicit, racial and derogatory statements early this month, forcing Bach to remove the list of supporters from the Web site.
After talking with the man over a cup of coffee, Bach decided to drop any charges because of the man’s situation.
Bach wished the man’s name, personal situation and age to remain anonymous; however Bach said the man was listed as a supporter on Target’s Scotts Valley Web site.
Bach submitted the information from the Web site to the Scotts Valley police and the city attorney in case there is another attack on the Web site.
“There’s a lesson learned here,” Bach said. “You are almost never invisible when you are on the internet.”
