The Responsible Local Development political action committee’s Web site, www.rldpac.org, was bombarded with sexually explicit, racial and derogatory statements in its comments section last week.
“The comments were beyond vulgar,” RLD PAC spokesman Paul Bach said.
RLDPAC, the most vocal opponent to the proposed Target in Scotts Valley, reported that last week marks the second time this year that the Web site has been attacked in such a manner. Similar comments were found on the Web site in March, Bach said.
The offending comments, which have since been removed from the site, mentioned the group’s supporters, so Bach removed the list of supporters from the site.
“By going public, we want to make sure that whoever is doing this knows they are traceable,” Bach said.
Bach provided the IP addresses used by the culprits to Scotts Valley police, who will work to use them to identify suspects.
“We’ll be investigating to the fullest extent to determine who it is, via the IP addresses,” Police Sgt. Jayson Rutherford said.
Bach said that because of the nature of the comments, the group contacted the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office and the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People, in addition to informing police.
