After the Scotts Valley City Council gave Habitat for Humanity the green light to build three townhouses on Blake Lane on April 6, the group’s next step toward breaking ground is to find suitable families to help construct and eventually live in the affordable homes.
In addition to putting in 500 hours of required “sweat equity” during the homes’ construction, the candidates who are selected will buy the houses for a small down payment and be given an interest-free mortgage, with payments designed not to exceed a third of the family’s monthly income.
Households interested in partnering with Habitat for Humanity are required to register and attend an orientation session to determine their eligibility for consideration as potential candidates.
On April 30, a Saturday, Habitat for Humanity will host orientation sessions at the St. Philips Episcopal Church, 5271 Scott Valley Drive, in Scotts Valley. The first, in English, is from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second, in Spanish, is from 1 to 3 p.m.
Another orientation session is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. May 3, a Tuesday, also at the church.
For information: Habitat for Humanity, 469-4663.
